The Nairobi Convention for the Protection, Management and Development of the Marine and Coastal Environment of the Western Indian Ocean Region leadership training on coastal and marine management will be held in Tanga on 4-6 October 2017. The targeted participants for the training are senior government officials (level of Directors) from relevant Ministries and parastatals in Tanzania.
The training in Tanga will prepare the way for national activities to further reduce impacts of land-based sources and activities into the coastal and marine environment. The leadership training will equip senior policy makers with leadership skills for better advocacy on the use of integrated approaches to the management of the coastal and marine ecosystems. The training will also equip participants with skills necessary for the development of informed decision making that is critical in the management of oceans.
The training is organized pursuant to Decision CP8/6c of the Eighth Conference of Parties to the Nairobi Convention on support and partnership for implementation of the Strategic Action Programme for the protection of the Western Indian Ocean from land based sources and activities. A key component of the strategic action programme involves strengthening governance and awareness in the Western Indian Ocean.
