The Marine Plastics Innovation Challenge
Marine plastic is an economic, environmental, human health and aesthetic problem posing a multi-dimensional challenge to humanity, often compared to climate change in terms of impact, breadth and complexity. A challenge of this magnitude will often inspire a surge in search for solutions from people of all backgrounds, from business and public sector, academia and research as well as the general public. In order to accelerate the search for solutions, UN Environment and Think Beyond Plastic launched a Marine Plastics Innovation Challenge on June 15th to engage university students and faculties, and innovators around the world in a solutions-oriented effort to help solve the global marine litter problem.Read More
9th World Environmental Education Congress (WEEC9) Side Event UN Environment Session - Supporting Policy through Education – No More Plastic Bags in Kenya
Organized by UN Environment in collaboration with Kenya’s National Environment Management Authority, the workshop showcased the recent national plastic carrier bags ban introduced by the Government of Kenya, including the use, manufacture and import of any plastic bags in the country. The event explored the education initiatives that accompanied the ban and discussed their impact on public opinion, uptake and media coverage. The ban is also in line with SDG 12 – Responsible Production and Consumption Patterns and SDG 4.7 - promoting positive behaviour change through Environmental Education. The national plastic carrier bag ban came effect in Kenya on August 2017.Read More
9th World Environmental Education Congress – WEEC 2017
The 9th World Environmental Education Congress (WEEC) Opening Ceremony was a glamourous event, as members from the UN Enviroment attended the globally recognized conference event. The World Environmental Education Congress is an international congress addressing education for environment and sustainable development, held once every two years. This year, the Congress was held on September 9 -15, 2017 in Vancouver, BC, Canada.The event was graced by Mr Elliott C. Harris, Assistant Secretary General and Head of the New York Office of UN Enviroment and our own head of Unit Ms. Jaime Alexandra Webbe, Chief, Environmental Education and Training Unit.

The Kenya Forests Working Group (KFWG) in partnership with Inuka Foundation, World Students Community for Sustainable Development (WSCSD) and UN Environment recently held the 2015 Mazingira Challenge.
