Open call for International Student Conference on Environment and Sustainability 2017 for GUPES members

Dear GUPES members,

I am pleased to inform you that Tongji University will once again host the Tongji - UN Environment International Student Conference on Environment and Sustainability from 2 - 7 June in Shanghai, China. This year, in recognition of World Environment Day, the overarching theme is "Connecting People to Nature".

Registration for the Conference is now open and will be available online from 15 March to 15 April 2017.

HEIRRI international Call for Applications is now open!

Dear colleagues,

I am contacting you from the Global University Network for innovation (GUNi) and the ACUP (Catalan Association of Public Universities).

We are currently part of a very interesting initiative: the Higher Education in Responsible Research and Innovation (HEIRRI – www.heirri.euproject, a European Horizon2020 funded project under the call Science for Society. This project aims to promote Responsible Research and Innovation in higher education, and specifically it will provide teaching/training materials in different formats for higher education institutions to integrate into the curriculums of their degrees, or for specific workshops.

Mazingira Challenge 2015

The Kenya Forests Working Group (KFWG) in partnership with Inuka Foundation, World Students Community for Sustainable Development (WSCSD) and UN Environment recently held the 2015 Mazingira Challenge. The word “Mazingira” means “environment” in Kiswahili. The challenge, an annual event launched in 2010, attracted students from various Kenyan tertiary education institutions.

Promoting Environmental Education at the 33rd Annual Environmental Education Association of Southern African (EEASA 2015) Conference

Under the theme, Creating Sustainable Societies: Scaling up Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) through the UNESCO GLOBAL Action Plan (GAP), the EEASA conference focused on critical environment and sustainable development issues in southern Africa and how environmental education (EE) is the catalyst to achievement of the “Future We Want”.

Eye on Earth Summit 2015

UN Environment's Education and Training Unit (EETU) recently particpated in the Eye on Earth Summit, held in UAE's capital, Abu Dhabi, from 6th to 8th October 2015. Guided by the theme for “Informed Decision-Making for Sustainable Development”, the Summit was attended by over 700 participants from over 60 countries comprisng of representatives of governments, scientific and research centres, universities, youth, technology companies, donors, regional and international organisations, UN major groups and stakeholder and UN agencies, funds and programmes.
